Avalanche for Luminar / Avalanche Unlimited on macos 10.13 High Sierra
Hi there, at the moment I am on macos 10.13 High Sierra, not really wanting to update to 10.14 Mojave and DEFINITELY not wanting to update to 10.15 Catalina. (Because then my Lightroom 6 might stop working correctly). Will you support Avalanche for Luminar / Avalanche Unlimited on macos 10.13 High Sierra? If not will you support macos 10.14 because this I might go (and still use my old Lightroom 6). After getting out of Lightroom (with your Tool "Avalanche" i hope) and being sure about it I will
What are the Pros/Cons of the two exported library structures?
There is the option to Reporduce the Source Hierarchy or do separate Collections and Projects. Is there an advantage disadvantage to either/or?
Why would I want to choose the different Preview Import options?
There are options to Never import previews, When conversion is approximate or lossy, when conversion is lossy, Always when available. I could not find an answer to why I would want to use one of these over another for my import from Aperture to Lig
Include an option to Ignore Pictures for import if one only wanted to import Video files to a catalog

What are the advantages/disadvantages of the different exported folder structures.
What are the reasons I would want to use a Flat Hierarchy? Is there an advantage to that format? Are there in inherent advantages/disadvantages to any of the other types of folder structure? I am leaning toward the Year/Month/date but with ~3TB of data
Avalanche losing metadata
I've got an Aperture library I busted up into smaller libraries—one for each year—and when I convert one of those smaller libraries to Lightroom with Avalanche 1.3.4, out of 11,000 images, about 7,500 of them lose all their EXIF and IPTC data. I opened
Avalanche for Lightroom v1.3 and Unlimited/Luminar v1.2 are out !
We've been very busy over the last few weeks to try to answer as many questions and fix as many issues that you encountered. We also listened to feedback to improve some of the features around previews. We hope these releases solve most of the issues encountered. Please note that one of the points often raised is the difference in count between the theoretical number of images initially reported by Avalanche and the final count of mlgrated images. We have done several actions to improve this: fixed
Dates are wrong
I'm running Avalanche version 1.2.1 (Build 954). I hovered the mouse over the date range graph at the top of the window, and the earliest bar is showing a range of Dec 29, 2004 - Jan 2 2004: So first off, those dates are in the wrong order. And secondly, I sorted all the photos by date, and there are no photos from Dec 29, 2004, nor the 28th or 30th. Nor from those dates in 2003. The tooltip at the other end of the graph says there are 37 photos from Jan 23, 2005 - Jan 27, 2005. I checked, and there
Bottom half of conversion window slides left and right
The bottom half of the conversion window, the portion where you select your conversion parameters, slides left and right when you scroll with a Magic Mouse or a track pad. Why? It looks like two different but similar sets of conversion parameters, which doesn't make a lot of sense. After you've scrolled sideways, the Next and Previous buttons no longer work correctly until you close and reopen the application.
Disk volume icons scroll left and right off the window
Using one-finger swiping on a Magic Mouse you can scroll the disk volume icons completely off the sides of the window.
Need to be able to pull previews for BOTH approximate and lossy conversions
The drop down will only let you choose one or the other, not both. Also, the selector here says "approximative," but the collection that gets created is called "approximate." The latter term is far more common in American English.
Avalanche takes forever to launch if no network
Unfortunately a thunderstorm knocked out our internet service last night. Now launching Avalanche takes about 28 bounces before the window finally appears, and another 15 or so before the Buy button goes away. I’m guessing it’s trying to “phone home” on the main thread.
Error when choosing a metadata preset in a converted library
Not sure if these are related, but it seems probable. I exported a small portion of my Aperture library into its own library, and then used Avalanche to convert that to Lightroom. When looking at the Metadata block in the Library module, the JPEGs all have a line that says "Sidecar Files" that's set to "xmp": If I use Lightroom to import a random JPEG, its Metadata block doesn't show this line: If I then try to select a metadata preset, I get the Lightroom error "An internal error has occurred. Levels adjustments
A lot of my test photos are considerably darker than they are in Aperture. Are Aperture's "Levels" adjustments supported?
Show estimated time as hours, minutes, seconds, not just minutes, seconds.
I shouldn't have to launch the calculator to figure out that 493 minutes is eight hours.
Minimize and Zoom items in the Window menu are always disabled.
The buttons in the top left of the window title bar work, why don't the menu options? And why is there a "Bring All to Front" option when there's only one window?
Don't generate a Videos collection if I chose to ignore videos.
I turned on the Ignore Videos check box, but the resulting Lightroom catalog still has an Avalance-generated Videos collection.
If you minimize the window to the dock and then restore it, it goes completely blank.
After you select an Aperture library, the window goes blank if you minimize and restore it. There's no way to get it to redraw: resizing it, entering/exiting full screen, hiding and then showing all leave it completely blank. You have to quit the app and relaunch it.
Show the item counts in the same order on the before and after screens.
The before screen is listed as Masters, Versions, Videos, Faces, Albums, but the after screen is listed as Versions, Masters, Albums, Faces, Videos. If you're not paying attention, you'll think the numbers changed on you.
Smart collections are doubled
For some reason, all my smart collections are doubled: "Five Stars" and "Five Stars 1", "Past Month" and "Past Month 1", etc. See attached screen shot.
Generated Collections
What are the differences between "Exact Conversion," "Approximate Conversion," and "Lossy Conversion?" What is meant by "Complex Stacks?"
Tells you a volume is missing, but doesn't tell you its name.
How can I have more masters than versions? Every master should have at least one version.
Need to be able to select subsets of the source library to convert
Converting my whole library is going to take eight hours. Would be nice to be able to do it in pieces; maybe do all of 2011 tonight, 2012 tomorrow night, etc.
Various grammar problems
Several conversion options are hidden off the bottom of the window, with no indication they exist.
The first few times I ran this, I didn't even know it had more options if you scrolled. Either make sure the window is big enough to show all the options, or add some indication of scrollability.
Shows tool tips for conversion options that aren't even visible.

Trouble Maker who Loves Aperture
So my dream is for someone to convince Apple to either open source Apeture or sell the source code to some enterprising developer. If noth that build me a drop in replacement. Adobe Never, Aperture forever!
Announcing Avalanche v1.0.5
We are happy to announce the availability of v1.0.5 of Avalanche for Lightroom, with many new features and bug fixes. Full details here.
First conversion
I have just completed the first conversion of a small Aperture library and I have some questions. 1. I chose Copy Referenced Masters but i am not sure if that is the best for me. My Aperture libraries were all managed (Masters were in the Aperture package) 2. for folder structure I chose Year-Month). I presume that means the files will be in folder-subfolder ie Year and then Months 3. when I look at Folders in Lr I see what seems to be a duplication of the files that were imported. There's a folder
