Issues Migrating from Lightroom Classic to Luminar Neo (Local + NAS)

Hi there,

I'm currently trying to transition from Lightroom Classic to Luminar Neo, but I've been running into a lot of issues, and I’d really appreciate your guidance on the best-practice approach to do this smoothly.

My setup:

  • Lightroom Classic Catalog

    • Local folder: 271 GB (~15,000 images, ~1,500 edited)

    • NAS folder: 978 GB (~44,000 images, ~22,744 edited)

Goal:

I want to fully migrate to Luminar Neo with:

  • The same folder structure

  • All existing edits preserved

  • Continued access to files on both local drive and NAS

My current migration process:

  1. Open my Lightroom Classic catalog

  2. Use Avalanche to convert the catalog to Luminar AI

  3. Use Luminar’s Migration Tool to convert it from Luminar AI to Neo

  4. Open the resulting catalog in Luminar Neo (tried with and without NAS mounted)

  5. Wait for Luminar Neo to index the catalog

Problems I've encountered (across multiple attempts):

  • Sometimes the folder on the NAS is gone and so are the images in the catalog (when I add them again, the edits are gone

  • Other times, local edits are gone

  • On the nas, the root folder is shown inside a folder with the same name. Every subfolder has 0 images

  • In no attempt has the migration fully succeeded

Could you please advise:

  • What is the recommended workflow for a setup like mine?

Thanks so much in advance for your help!
